In other words, it’s a naga/Old Gods kind of Lovecraft-ish expansion. A shadow has fallen over Kul Tiras, and it is only the beginning of the terror to come. Madness has engulfed many of the surviving Tirasians and void corruption emanates from the northern mountains. Queen Azshara’s armies engulf the island while Nazjatar, raised from the seafloor, dominates the horizon. What they find is an island on the brink of catastrophe. Brave heroes are called forth to venture to Kul Tiras and investigate these claims. Both groups come with a dire warning: the island has been engulfed by a dark presence that will soon spill out onto the rest of Azeroth. Refugees from the island nation of Kul Tiras accompanied by a group of ethereals arrive at Stormwind, while a tribe of naga surrender to the Horde at Orgrimmar. The tension is broken when giant waves batter the shores of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Warchief Sylvanas works to cement her leadership over the Horde, while the Alliance deals with with split attitudes on whether or not the Horde’s recent activities warrant a military response. I wanted to call it The Shadow over Kul Tiras but it just didn’t sound like an expansion name.įollowing the defeat of the Burning Legion, the Alliance and Horde have turned their attentions to domestic matters. The result, pictured below, seemed intricate enough to create a continent with different zones out of it. I hope you enjoy “Shadows of Kul Tiras.”įirst off, I tried my best to draw an outline around the Kul Tiras map featured on the datamined armor set. This won’t be your standard “South Seas expansion”, as we can also guess from the sheer amount of new ethereal and void models and art assets introduced in 7.3 that there’s a good chance they’ll play a major role too. The idea of making Kul Tiras into an entire continent is intriguing to me, so I couldn’t help but try to flesh out a potential expansion of that nature for myself. ![]() Leveling gear in expansions usually follows this naming convention ““inv_(armor slot)_(armor type)_(“snippet of expansion’s name”quest)_b_01.” For example Legion leveling gear uses file names like “inv_chest_leather_legionquest100_b_01” and Warlords of Draenor used “inv_bracer_leather_draenorquest90_b_01.” That would suggest Kul Tiras is part of the expansion’s name, probably something like “(Blank) of Kul Tiras.” You can become reacquainted for just $15.The recently datamined armor in the 7.3 PTR points to the island nation of Kul Tiras being the setting for our next World of Warcraft expansion. Aside from hinting that Kul Tiras will finally be making its appearance in WoW, the naming scheme of the datamined files suggest Kul Tiras might not just be a zone in the next expansion, but an entire continent. Anyone who hasn’t played the Legion expansion should give the game a try – you don’t even have to buy the new expansion, as all expansions prior to Battle for Azeroth are now unlocked with a monthly subscription. Yet the core of World of Warcraft is better than ever before. Island Expeditions have flopped and the new gear system, Azerite Armor, is simultaneously confusing and dull. The new zones are beautiful, to be sure, but the climactic introduction cinematic and quests lead into a whole lot of cliché and not a lot of action. ![]() the diverse new zones and more intimate storytelling alone make Battle for Azeroth an adventure worth diving into.īattle for Azeroth is off to a weak start. Ultimately Battle for Azeroth is a worthy if somewhat less ambitious successor to 2016’s Legion. Island Expeditions also feel lacking overall, but the new Foothold excursions and new Battlegrounds map make up for the former’s lackluster debut. But, while it definitely feels as though the Heart of Azeroth and Azerite armor will be important in the patches to come, and Blizzard fixed the grind right now their implementation feels forgettable. ![]() The storylines feel more intimate than Legion, and while the spectre of Azeroth itself dying is still looming overhead, on the whole it was nice to simply sit back and help solve the relatively smaller problems plaguing Kul Tiras and Zandalar. The implementation of “stat squish” and “item squish” are also added to make changes to the gameplay.īattle for Azeroth has a lot to live up to thanks to its stellar predecessor in Legion, and for the most part it delivers. There are also additional dungeons, raids, warfronts, and uncharted islands. This expansion pack also includes the Kul Tiras and Zandalar continents as well as four new races each for the Alliance and the Horde. The level cap is raised from 110 to 120 for this expansion pack. Announced during the BlizzCon in 2017, Battle for Azeroth is the seventh expansion pack for the World of Warcraft series.
